Moreno (Andrade), Segundo Luis
Moreno (Andrade), Segundo Luis, Ecuadorian musicologist and composer; b. Cotacachi, Aug. 3, 1882; d. Quito, Nov. 18, 1972. He played the clarinet in a civil band in Quito. He studied at the Quito Cons., and then was active as a military band leader in various localities in Ecuador. In 1937 he took over the newly established Cons. Nacional de Música in Cuenca, and later was director of the Guayaquil Cons. (1940–45). He composed mostly for military band; many of his pieces celebrate various patriotic events in Ecuador, as the cantata La emancipation (1920), the overture 9 de Julio (1925), and various pieces on native motifs, among them 3 suites ecuatorianas for Orch. (1921,1944,1945). He publ. Música y danzas autoctonas del Ecuador (Quito, 1949) and La música de los Inças (Quito, 1957).
