Made stage debut with Comédie Française (1890); a noted actress of stage and screen, made last stage appearance in title role of La Folle de Chaillot (The Madwoman of Chaillot); appeared in over 80 films, including Chérie (1930), Le cordon bleu (1931), Miche (1932), Le Chasseur de chez Maxim's (1933), Casanova (1934), Les Misérables (1934), Mes tantes et moi (1936), Gigolette (1936), La Fessée (1937), Les Perles de la couronne (1937), La Dame de pique (1937), Secrets (1943), Carmen (1945) and L'Idiot (1946).
