Okoshi, Tiger (actually, Toru)
Okoshi, Tiger (actually, Toru) , jazz-fusion trumpeter, synthesizer player; b. Ashita, Japan, March 21, 1950. He started to play the trumpet at age 11, working in local bands. He came to the U.S. initially in 1972. He was based in Boston since the early 1970s, where he attended Berklee School of Music, graduating in 1975, and achieved local renown for his Miles Davislike fusion approach. He recorded in Boston with Gary Burton, as well as working with Buddy Rich, Michael Franks, and John Scofield. He recorded his first solo album in 1980, and has since led his own groups. He is Associate Professor of trumpet at Berklee.
