Papaioannou, Yannis (Andreou)
Papaioannou, Yannis (Andreou), Greek composer and teacher; b. Kavala, Jan. 6, 1911; d. Athens, May 11, 1989. He studied piano and theory at the Hellenic Cons, in Athens (1922–34), then had some composition lessons with Honegger in Paris (1949). In 1953 he was appointed to the staff of his alma mater. His music traversed from a fairly conservative neo-Classical idiom to dodecaphony and eventually integral serialism.
