Pruslin, Stephen (Lawrence)

Pruslin, Stephen (Lawrence) , American pianist, writer on music, and composer; b. N.Y., April 16, 1940. He studied at Brandeis Univ. (B.A., 1961) and Princeton Univ. (M.F.A., 1963), and also studied piano with Luise Vosgerchian and Steuermann. He received a Hertz Memorial Scholarship from the Univ. of Calif. (1964), which enabled him to go to Europe. He settled in London, where he made his recital debut (1970); that same year he became a founding member of the Fires of London with Peter Maxwell Davies, and subsequently appeared with it frequently; also toured widely as a soloist. He became especially known as an interpreter of and a writer on contemporary music. He ed. Peter Maxwell Davies: Studies from Two Decades (1979), and also composed scores for the theater, films, and television.
