Roland, Claude-Robert

Roland, Claude-Robert , Belgian composer, organist, conductor, and teacher; b. Pont-de-Loup, Dec. 19, 1935. He studied composition at the Music Academy in Châtelet and at the conservatories of Mons, Liège, Paris, and Brussels with Froidebise, C. Schmit, R. Bernier, Messiaen, and Defossez; also took a course in conducting with Scherchen. He was an organist in churches in various Belgian cities (1955–67); was director of the Music Academy at Montignies-le-Tilleul (1966–75); in 1972, was appointed to the staff of the Brussels Cons.
