Ronga, Luigi

Ronga, Luigi , eminent Italian musicologist; b. Turin, June 19, 1901; d. Rome, Sept. 11, 1993. After obtaining an arts degree from the Univ. of Turin, he went to Dresden to pursue his training in musicology. In 1930 he received his libera docenza. In 1926 he became a prof. at the Palermo Cons. In 1930 he settled in Rome, where he was a teacher at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and at the Pontifico Istituto di Musica Sacra. He then was a lecturer (1938–50) and subsequently a prof. (1950–71) at the Univ. of Rome. He was ed. of Rassegna musicale (1928–29) and Rivista musicale italiana (1954–55).
