Royal Manchester College of Music. Mus. college founded in Manchester 1893, with title Royal from inception. Royal charter 1923. Founded on initiative of Sir Charles Hallé, Prin. 1893–5. Successors: A. Brodsky 1895–1929, R. J. Forbes 1929–53, F. R. Cox 1953–70, J. Wray 1970–2. From 1957 gave 4 diplomas. Premises were in Ducie Street, Manchester. In 1972 merged with Northern Sch. of Mus. to become Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
