Rütti, Carl
Rütti, Cari , Swiss pianist, organist, teacher, and composer; b. Fribourg, March 24, 1949. He received training in piano and organ at the Zürich Cons., taking diplomas in both subjects in 1975, and then completed his piano studies with Kendall Taylor at the Royal Coll. of Music in London in 1976. In 1972 he became a teacher at the Zürich Cons. and in 1980 organist in Oberägeri. He toured East Germany as a pianist in 1987, and also appeared in Copenhagen. In 1991–92 he again made appearances in Germany. In 1994 he was an organ recitalist in Manchester and a piano recitalist in London. He gave a piano recital in Indianapolis in 1998. Rütti has devoted much of his compositional effort to choral music. Among his most important works are Buch der Bilder, 7 motets after Rilke (1982), O magnum mysterium (Austrian TV Christmas broadcast, 1992), Veni, Creator Spiritus (1997), Gloria (1998), Stabat Mater (1998), and Alpha et Omega (1999).
