Tilney, Colin, English harpsichordist; b. London, Oct. 31, 1933. He studied modern languages and music at King’s Coll., Cambridge, then took lessons in harpsichord with Mary Potts and with Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam. He subsequently became engaged as a soloist and ensemble player in England and on the Continent, making his first tour of the U.S. in 1971. His extensive repertoire covers the harpsichord literature of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries; it is his preference to use historical instruments or modern replicas of harpsichords, clavichords, and fortepianos in his concerts.
