Tishchenko, Boris (Ivanovich)
Tishchenko, Boris (Ivanovich), Russian composer and teacher; b. Leningrad, March 23, 1939. He was a student of Salmanov, Voloshinov, and Evlakhov at the Leningrad Cons. (graduated, 1962), and then of Shostakovich (1962-65). In 1965 he joined the faculty of the Leningrad Cons., where he was made an assoc. prof, in 1980 and a full prof, in 1986. In 1978 he was awarded the Glinka Prize and in 1987 was made a People’s Artist of the U.S.S.R. Tishchenko’s music is crafted in a masterly fashion in an advanced idiom without overstepping the bounds of tonality.
