Votapek, Ralph

Votapek, Ralph, American pianist and teacher; b. Milwaukee, March 20, 1939. He studied at Northwestern Univ. (B.A., 1960), with Gui Mombaerts and Robert Goldsand at the Manhattan School of Music in N.Y. (M.M., 1961), and with Rosina Lhévinne at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y. (1961-62). He won the Van Cliburn Competition in 1962, and then embarked on a concert career. He taught at Mich. State Univ. in East Lansing (from 1968).
