Wendt, Larry (actually, Lawrence Frederick), American composer and writer on music; b. Napa, Calif., April 5,1946. After training in chemistry at San Jose State Coll. (1964-67) and the Univ. of Mont. (1967-68), he studied with Strang (composition) and took courses in comparative literature at San Jose State Univ. (B.A., 1975). He was active as an electronics technician in the music dept. and recording studios at San Jose State Univ. From 1978 he utilized his own electronic and computer equipment to produce various works, a number of which he recorded on his own Frog Hollow label. With S. Ruppenthal, he publ. the books Vocable Gestures: A Historical Survey of Sound Poetry (1977) and A Sketch of American Text-Sound Composition and the Works of Charles Amirkhanian (1979). Most of his music is for tape.
