Zechberger, Günther
Zechberger, Günther, Austrian conductor, teacher, and composer; b. Zams, Tirol, April 24, 1951. He studied composition and guitar at the Cons. (1968-74) and musicology at the Univ. (1974-80) in Innsbruck. He received training in conducting from Eric Ericson and Witold Rowicki, and in composition from Boguslaw Schaeffer. From 1970 to 1991 he taught guitar in Tirolean schools. In 1984 he founded the Tiroler Ensemble für Neue Musik, which he conducted in many performances of contemporary scores. He also taught at the Univ. of Innsbruck. In his music, structural complexities predominate but not without special regard for sonoristic effects.
