Zimmermann, Frank Peter
Zimmermann, Frank Peter, German violinist; b. Duisburg, Feb. 27, 1965. As a child he took violin lessons with his mother, making his public debut with the Duisburg Sym. Orch. at 10. He then studied with W. Gradow at the Essen Folkwang-Musikhochschule and with H. Krebbers at the Robert-Schumann-Institut of the Düsseldorf Hochschule für Musik. In 1979 he appeared at the Lucerne Festival; made his British debut as soloist with the Royal Phil. at the Portsmouth Festival in 1981 and his U.S. debut as soloist with the Pittsburgh Sym. Orch. in 1984; also toured the Soviet Union in 1984. In subsequent years, he appeared as a soloist with principal orchs. and toured widely as a recitalist. His repertoire ranges from Bach to Prokofiev.
