SIDELIGHTS: Rebecca B. Burton told CA: "I love to write. I have to write. That's why I do it. I'm influenced by everything I read, smell, see, hear about; people I meet at home and during my travels; my children and family, my teaching experiences in the classroom—all of this influences me. My writing process starts with a scene between the hero and heroine that comes into my mind. I play with it and flesh it out until it becomes a story. The Norwegian novel I'm working on came about because I love foreign heroes and thought it was time to try one who isn't from the Mediterranean area. I love Edward Grieg's music, so I picked Norway. I lived in Switzerland for a year when I was seventeen with girls from all over the world. I learned to speak fluent French and traveled everywhere. I lived with my foreign friends in their countries when on vacations. Those experiences gave me a wealth of knowledge and my eyes were opened. There came a day when all the memories I had stored inside had to come out. It's all there in my various novels. I'm writing on all kinds of themes these days, even issues that I might not have chosen at the beginning of my career. For example, I've written two romances with the Holocaust as a background element that drives the plots."
