In his first book, Revelations: A Novel, M. Scott Byrnes tells an apocalyptic story that involves a discovery on Mars that not only changes people's view of God but also indicates that the end of the world may be coming. Physicist Tim Redmonds and NASA geologist Kathy Palmer are soon united in an effort to save the Earth by searching through both the clues on Mars and the religious doctrines of Earth. In the process, they encounter a strange creature that may hold the key to saving the world. A contributor to the Richmond Alumni magazine referred to the novel as "science fiction [that] pulls down the pillars of received wisdom to construct an alternate reality."
