OBITUARY NOTICE—See index for CA sketch: Born October 27, 1914, in Little Rock, AR; died of lung cancer, September 26, 2005, in Falls Church, VA. Air traffic controller and author. Dodson was a retired air traffic control executive for the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA). After growing up poor during the Great Depression, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy out of the simple desire to eat regular meals. He served as a naval radio operator from 1932 to 1940 before being discharged. Upon joining the Civil Aeronautics Administration, which later became the FAA, he worked in air traffic control. Dodson eventually became director of special projects and retired in 1975. Dodson remained active as director of business services at the University of Maryland for the next ten years. He was the author of two books: Pilots Radio Handbook (1953) and the self-published Working in a Washington Wonderland: Fun and Frolic in the Civil Service (1969).
