See index for CA sketch: Born September 17, 1917, in Sheboygan, WI; died September 27, 2003, in Evanston, IL. Educator and author. Donohue was an English professor and scholar of Nathaniel Hawthorne and John Steinbeck. She received a B.A. from Rosary College (now Dominican University) in 1939, followed by a master's degree a year later from the University of Wisconsin—Madison. From 1942 until 1965 she taught at Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois, earning her Ph.D. from Loyola University in 1954. She joined the faculty at Loyola in 1965 as an associate professor, becoming a full professor two years later and retiring in 1988. Even after officially retiring, however, she continued to teach at Northeastern Illinois University from 1990 to 1995. Donohue was the editor of A Casebook on the Hawthorne Question (1963) and A Casebook on the Grapes of Wrath (1968), and author of Hawthorne: Calvin's Ironic Stepchild (1985).
