WORK IN PROGRESS: Research on surface science and corrosion science.
SIDELIGHTS: Christofer Leygraf told CA: "The consequence of corrosion on our society is enormous, and a substantial part is due to atmospheric corrosion. The global cost of atmospheric corrosion has been estimated at upwards of $100 million U.S. per year—electrical and electronic equipment fails to function, bridges collapse, intricate surfaces of statuary grow smooth or disintegrate, and so on. With the book Atmospheric Corrosion, my coauthor Tom Graedel and I have tried to combine recent information from experimental and theoretical studies of atmospheric corrosion and present the current knowledge in a pedagogical and accurate manner to the reader."
