SIDELIGHTS: British author Neil Parkyn works as an architect and a city planner. In 2002, Parkyn edited The Seventy Wonders of the Modern World, which highlights structures from around the world, providing information about each structure's dimensions, reason for construction, and history. The structures are arranged by category, and include religious buildings, castles, state buildings, skyscrapers, bridges, canals, and colossal statues. The text for each structure is augmented by a number of photographs and illustrations. Donna Seaman, in a review for Booklist, described the book as an "efficiently designed, photo-rich, mind-expanding volume," while School Library Journal contributor Judy McAloon called the book a "beautifully executed, well-organized work."

Parkyn is also the author of SuperStructures: The World's Greatest Modern Structures, which features fifty-seven important structures from the last one hundred years, including bridges, tunnels, airports, hydroelectric dams, observatories, and sports stadiums.
