glossopharyngeal nerve (glos-oh-fa-rin-jee-ăl) n. the ninth cranial nerve (IX), which supplies motor fibres to part of the pharynx and to the parotid salivary glands and sensory fibres to the posterior third of the tongue and the soft palate.
