antepagment, antepagmentum (pl. ante-pagments, antepagmenta).
1. Face of a jamb of an aperture, or a moulded architrave. Its top horizontal part, supercilium or antepagmentum superius is really a moulding over the lintel, and has a section identical to that of the vertical parts of the architrave: it is often expressed as a lintel by means of a crossette whereby it projects slightly beyond the tops of the antepagmenta, and the mouldings return at the ends, forming ears, elbows, lugs, or shoulders.
2. Anta or pilaster.
