Chipperfield, David Alan (1953– ). British architect. Among his works may be mentioned Agar Grove Studios, Camden, London (1987), Gotoh Private Museum, Tokyo, Japan (1991), the River and Rowing Museum, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon. (1985–97), the First Church of Christ Scientist, Richmond, Surrey (1995), the Kaistrasse Studios, Düsseldorf (1994–7), the refurbishment of the American Radiator Building (by Hood) as the Bryant Park Hotel, NYC (1998–2001), the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Dublin (2001), the Landeszentralbank, Gera, Germany (2001), and the Gormley Studio, London (2003). One of his largest projects is that for the reorganization of the entire Museum Island, Berlin, including the reinstatement of the half-destroyed Neues Museum to house, among other things, the celebrated Egyptian Collection (from 1997, due for completion 2009). Another important scheme is the extension of San Michele Cemetery, Venice (1998–2006).
