Emerson, Sir William

Emerson, Sir William (1843–1924). English architect. He designed (from 1909) the epitome of Edwardian Baroque magnificence (even grander than Brumwell Thomas's Belfast City Hall), the Queen Victoria Memorial, Calcutta, India, opened in 1921. He was President of the RIBA (1899–1902), and prepared the master-plan for Waterloo Place, London (1910).
