Ricardo of Burgos
Ricardo of Burgos (fl. c.1180–1226). Probably an English master-mason. He designed and built the Monastery of Las Huelgas, near Burgos, Spain, and may have settled in Castile through his connections with Queen Eleanor of Castile (1162–1214), daughter of King Henry II of England (reigned 1154–89). It is likely that he was also responsible for the Monastery of Santa Maria, Aguilar de Campóo (finished 1222), and his designs remained influential for several years.
