Alberta Press Council Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist high school students in pursuing post-secondary studies. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents; must have been residents of Alberta for at least one year prior to time of application; must be students currently attending Grade 12 in a recognized school in Alberta or students who are enrolled full-time in a postsecondary degree or diploma program. Family members of newspaper

staff are eligible to apply; relatives of current Press Council Members are not. Scholarship is open to any field of study. Applicants must agree to allow the publishing of their essay on the Alberta Press Council's website and on Newswire Services. Criteria: Selection will be based on a 1000-1100 word essay on a pre-determined topic. Essays will be judged based on creativity, style and content.

Funds Avail.: $1,500 for the winning essay. To Apply: Essay must be typed, double spaced, 12 point font, 1,000-1,100 words. It is essential that essays be carefully checked/proofread before submission, and neat and tidy word processed on standard size paper (8 1/2 x 11). Six copies of the essay and the application form, with only one cover page, are to be sent to the Selection Committee, Alberta Press Council.
