CIGNA Healthcare Graduate Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support the education and development of African-American students and prepare them for careers in public administration. Focus: Public administration. Qua-lif.: Applicants must be full-time students, working towards a graduate degree in public administration, political science, urban affairs, public policy, or a related field preferably at an HBCU with excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities, strong oral and written communication skills and a 3.0 or better GPA for at least 1 remaining full time semester. Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated based on some criteria designed by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Funds Avail.: $5,000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicants must submit cover letter describing status as a student and other relevant information that might be used in evaluating application (extra-curricula activities, volunteer activities, etc.); official copies of all graduate (if applicable) and undergraduate transcripts; two reference letters, at least one of which should be from a faculty member; three-page essay, detailing autobiography and career goals and objectives; and a current resume. Deadline: February 27.

CIGNA Healthcare Undergraduate Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support the education and development of African-American students and prepare them for careers in public administration. Focus: Public administration; Political science; Urban affairs/design/planning. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students, working towards an undergraduate degree in public administration, political science, urban affairs, public policy, or a related field preferably at an HBCU with excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities, strong oral and written communication skills and a 3.5 or better grade point average for completed 1 full-time college semester and at least 1 full-time academic year. Criteria: Recipient will be selected based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 1. To Apply: Applicants must submit a cover letter describing your current student status and other relevant information that might be used in evaluating the application (extra-curricular activities, volunteer activities, etc); official copies of all undergraduate transcripts; scores from the American College Testing (ACT) program or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) administered by the College Entrance Examination Board; a copy of their Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA); two (2) reference letters (at least one of which should be from a faculty member); three-page essay detailing his/her autobiography and career goals and objectives; three-page essay answering the question: In your opinion, what are the five most critical skills public administrators ought to possess, and why?; and a current resume. Deadline: February 27.

Purpose: To help NFBPA further achieve its mission of attracting the best and brightest African Americans to careers in public service. Focus: Public service. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in public administration, political science, urban affairs, public policy, or a related field who have excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities, strong oral and written communication skills and have 3.0 or better GPA for at least 1 full time semester remaining. Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated based on the criteria designed by the Scholarship Committee.

The Future Colleagues Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance for the education of undergraduate students pursuing a career in public service. Focus: Public service. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students with average academic credentials (2.5 to 3.0) and strong written, oral and analytical abilities, and have at least 1 full-time semester remaining. Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated based on the criteria designed by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a cover letter describing the current student status and other relevant information that might be used in evaluating the application (extra-curricular activities, volunteer activities, etc); a 500-word essay which provides an example of prior public or community service involvement and how it has influenced your future aspirations in public administration; official copies of all undergraduate transcripts; two (2) reference letters (at least one of which should be from a faculty member); and a current resume. Deadline: February 27.

Land-Use Planning Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support the education and development of post-secondary African American students. Focus: Public service. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students working towards a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral) in urban planning or a related field (such as transportation engineering, landscape architecture, environmental planning, etc.); must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and either have a home domicile in the state of Maryland or attend a college or university located in

Maryland; should have excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities, strong oral and written communication skills; should have a 3.0 or better grade point average and at least 1 full time semester remaining (after May 2008). Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Funds Avail.: $3,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a cover letter describing current student status and other relevant information that might be used in evaluating applications; official copies of all graduate and undergraduate transcripts; two reference letters, at least one of which should be from a faculty member; three-page essay, detailing his/her autobiography and career goals and objectives and current resume.

Willie T. Loud - CH2M Hill Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist NFBPA to further achieve its mission of grooming the next generation of African Americans for careers in public service. Focus: Public service. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students with 3.0 or better GPA who are at least 1 full-time semester remaining or working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Administration or a related field and should have strong interpersonal skills, excellent writing, analytical, and oral communication abilities. Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated based on criteria designed by the Scholarship Committee.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicant must submit a cover letter describing current student status and other relevant information that might be used in evaluating application; official copies of all graduate and undergraduate transcripts; two reference letters (at least one of which should be from a faculty member); three-page essay detailing his/her autobiography and career goals and objectives; and current resume.

McKinley Financial Scholarships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support the education and development of African-American students and prepare them for careers in public administration. Focus: Public administration. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students, working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in public administration, political science, urban affairs, public policy or a related field with excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities, strong oral and written communication skills and 3.0 or better grade point average for at least 1 full time remaining semester. Criteria: Applicants will be selected based on some criteria by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in public administration, political science, urban affairs, public policy, or a related field with excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities, strong oral and written communication skills, have 3.0 GPA and/or have at least 1 full time semester remaining. Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated based on criteria designed by the Scholarship Committee.

4900 RA Consulting Service Maria Riley Scholarships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance for the education and development of public administrators serving in the engineering and information technology field. Focus: Engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students, working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering or information technology with excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities, strong oral and written communication skills and a 3.0 or better grade point average for at least 1 remaining full time semester. Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Funds Avail.: $1,500. To Apply: Applicants must submit cover letter describing current student status, and other relevant information that might be used in evaluating your application (extra-curricula activities, volunteer activities, etc); official copies of all graduate (if applicable) and undergraduate transcripts (transcripts must be included in application package, not sent separately); two reference letters (at least one of which should be from a faculty member); three-page essay detailing his/her autobiography and career goals and objectives; and a current resume. Deadline: February 27.
