Kevin Child Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage aspirations of higher education among individuals with bleeding disorders through providing financial assistance. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be individuals diagnosed with hemophilia or von Willebrand disease; must be high school seniors with aspirations of attending an institute of higher education or college students already pursuing post secondary education. Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on academic performance, participation in school or community activities and an essay detailing educational and career goals.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 1. Soozie Courter Sharing a Brighter Tomorrow Hemophilia Scholarship Program (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational assistance to people with hemophilia and their families. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must have hemophilia A or B; must be a high school senior; must have a graduate equivalency diploma (GED); or be currently enrolled in an accredited junior college, undergraduate, graduate or vocational school. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the required essay, recommendations, and academic standing.

Funds Avail.: $7,500 (graduate scholarships); $5,000 (college scholarships); $2,500 (vocational scholarships). Eric Delson Memorial Scholarships (Graduate, High School, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage educational pursuits among students with bleeding disorders by providing financial support. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Students who are clinically diagnosed with hemophilia or von Willebrand disease are eligible to apply. Applicants must be entering Grades 7 through 12 at private secondary schools or must be high school seniors, high school graduates or equivalent (GED), or post-secondary school students currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course at an accredited two or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States. Students must be accepted by the institution during the year for which the scholarship is given and must be enrolled with the designated institution no later than September of the coming year. Criteria: Scholarship recipients are chosen on the basis of academic record,

potential to succeed, leadership, participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of educational and career goals, unusual personal and family circumstances, and recommendations.

Funds Avail.: $1,500 for private high school; $2,500 for college or trade school. Number Awarded: 1 for private high school; 3 for college or trade school. Eric Dostie Memorial College Scholarships (Four Year College, Two Year College, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to students with hemophilia or a related bleeding disorder. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Scholarship is open to students with hemophilia or a related bleeding disorder, or their family members. Applicants must be citizens of the United States and enrolled full-time in an accredited two or four-year college program. Criteria: Recipients are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, community service and financial need.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 10. To Apply: Applicants must submit an essay describing how his or her education will be used to serve humankind and to encourage self-improvement and enrichment. Education is Power Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To inspire attainment of higher education among individuals with hemophilia and von Willbrand Disease by providing educational funds. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be individuals living with hemophilia and von Willebrand Disease; must be entering or attending a community college, junior college, four-year college, university, or vocational school; and must be a United States resident. Criteria: Scholarships will be awarded to the applicant who best meets the scholarship criteria.

Funds Avail.: $500-2,500. Number Awarded: 20-25. To Apply: Applicant must submit the completed application form available from the website; documentation from a physician/nurse of the applicant’s bleeding disorder; copy of diploma or graduate equivalency diploma (GED); most recent transcript; proof of admission to the school; proof of school tuition; a separate document outlining the applicant’s community involvement and/or volunteer work; an essay (no less than 250 words); and one letter of recommendation or character reference. Deadline: May 1.

Remarks: Prior applicants and winners are encouraged to reapply each year.

Joshua Gomes Memorial Scholarship Fund (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide academic scholarships for young adults with HIV/AIDS. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be individuals living with HIV/AIDS; must be accepted or enrolled in a US college or university as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student. Criteria: Scholarship is awarded based on combined merit and need.

Funds Avail.: 1,000. Number Awarded: Varies. To Apply: Applicants must submit the completed application form available from the website; letter from a doctor certifying that the applicant is HIV positive or has AIDS; official transcripts from high school showing the applicant’s cumulative GPA; letter of acceptance from a U.S. college or university; three letters of recommendation; and an attached 500-word essay. Qualif.: Scholarship is open to women diagnosed with hemophilia or Von Willebrand Disease, and who are entering or attending a college or vocational school. Criteria: Recipients are chosen based on combined merit and need.

Hemophilia Health Services Memorial Scholarship Program (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage higher learning among individuals with bleeding disorders by providing financial assistance. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a US citizen with hemophilia, VWD or other bleeding disorder. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on merits.

Purpose: To help children with hemophilia afford learning assistance. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Grant is open to children in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Criteria: Recipient is chosen based on a review of all application documents.

To Apply: Applicants must submit the completed application form available from the website along with a notarized letter from the tutor outlining the tutoring work done and the fees charged. Dave Madeiros Scholarship Program -Continued Education (Four Year College, Two Year College/Scholarship)

Purpose: To inspire higher learning among individuals with a bleeding disorder and their immediate family by providing financial assistance. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Program is open to individuals with bleeding disorders and their immediate family pursuing secondary education at a two or four-year institution or accredited technical or arts school. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on an essay (500 words or less) describing the applicant’s goals and future plans for use of their education or training.

Funds Avail.: $2,000. Number Awarded: Varies. To Apply: Applicants must submit complete application package which includes an application form available from the website; essay on the applicant’s goals and aspirations and how the bleeding disorder community has played a part in the applicant’s life (500 words or less); two letters of reference (one personal and one from a local chapter, Hemophilia Treatment Center or physician); proof of academic standing (high school transcript); list of all additional loans, scholarships, and funding requested and received; copy of most recent tax return and proof of enrollment. Qualif.: Program is open to children with bleeding disorders and their siblings ages 5 to 17 who would like to be exposed in trainings in arts and/or sports. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need.

Qualif.: All members of the hemophilia and bleeding disorders community, including spouses, siblings and children, are eligible to apply. Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on goal orientation, drive and motivation.

To Apply: Applicant must complete application package which includes an application form available from the website; two letters of recommendation from someone who can assess the applicant’s academic potentials and knows the applicant in general terms (doctor, nurse, social worker, friend, relative, or community leader). Project Red Flag Academic Scholarships for Women with Bleeding Disorders (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist women with bleeding disorders in their pursuit of post high school studies. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be female residents of the U.S. with a bleeding disorder (includes von Willebrand disease, hemophilia carrier or other clotting factor deficiencies).
