Description: State-supported, comprehensive, coed. Part of Troy State University System. Awards associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees and post-master's certificates. Founded 1887. Setting: 577-acre small town campus. Endowment: $22 million. Research spending 2002-03: $196,170. Educational spending 2002-03: $3554 per student. Total enrollment: 8,031. Faculty: 498 (240 full-time, 258 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 20:1. 3,507 applied, 67% were admitted. 47% from top quarter of their high school class, 82% from top half. Full-time: 4,156 students, 57% women, 43% men. Part-time: 1,049 students, 69% women, 31% men. Students come from 56 states and territories, 59 other countries, 13% from out-of-state, 1% Native American, 1% Hispanic, 26% black, 1% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 6% international, 24% 25 or older, 34% live on campus, 6% transferred in. Community Environment: Population 15,000, Troy is located at the junction of U.S. Highways 231 and 29 and is 50 miles from Montgomery, the state capital. There is regular bus service. The citizens take great interest in the University, and extend a cordial welcome to students. There are numerous social, church, civic and school organizations which provide cultural enrichment for the citizens and for the students of the University. Recreational facilities include parks for swimming, tennis courts, a lake for fishing, and two golf courses.
