myelitis (my-ĕ-ly-tis) n.
1. an inflammatory disease of the spinal cord. The most usual kind (transverse m.) most often occurs during the development of multiple sclerosis. The inflammation spreads across the tissue of the spinal cord, resulting in paralysis of the legs and lower trunk.
2. inflammation of the bone marrow. See osteomyelitis.
