Córdova, Arturo de (1908–1973)

Arturo de Córdova (b. 8 May 1908; d. 1973), Mexican film actor. Born Arturo García Rodriguez in Mérida, Yucatán, Córdova studied in Argentina. Upon his return to Mexico in 1930, he worked in radio. He made his cinematic debut in Hollywood with a small part in the film For Whom the Bell Tolls. In Mexico, his first acting part was in Celos (1936). By the 1940s, he had become one of the most sought-out and popular leading men of the golden age of the Mexican cinema. He starred in over 300 films in Mexico, Hollywood, Brazil, Spain, and Venezuela, and received three Ariels from the Mexican film academy for best performance by an actor for the films En la palma de tu mano (1950), Las tres perfectas casadas (1952), and Feliz año amor mío (1955).
