CÓRDOBA, ANTONIO DE
Franciscan moral theologian; b. Spain, 1485; d. Guadalajara, 1578. He was twice provincial minister in his order, and also took part in the Council of Trent at the request of Philip II. In his later years he declined the See of Piacenza and chose retirement instead. Among his numerous writings a commentary on the Sentences (Alcalá, 1569 or 1562) is often listed, but recent studies seem to disprove its existence (see Piatti, 22–24; Durán, 15–16). His major moral treatises were: Quaestionarium theologicum (Venice-Toledo 1569–70), under the general title Opera Fr. Antonii Cordubensis …, and Summa casuum (Toledo 1582–83).
