Euceda, Maximiliano (1891–1987)

Maximiliano Euceda (b. 1891; d. 1987), Honduran portrait painter. Born in Caridad, Honduras, near Tegucigalpa, Euceda, like other members of Honduras's Generation of '20, studied art in Spain, where he was especially influenced by the naturalism and realism of Romero de Torres. Euceda returned to Honduras in 1927, and gave art lessons until 1940, when he joined the staff of the newly formed Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Tegucigalpa, where he taught for several decades thereafter. He and Carlos Zúñiga Figueroa were especially important in training the generation of Honduran painters that emerged in the 1940s.
