Plan of La Noria
Plan of La Noria
Plan of La Noria, Mexican revolutionary movement of 8 November 1871. The plan's principal goal was to prevent the reelection of Benito Juárez to a fourth term as president. It was aimed at promoting the political fortunes of Porfirio Díaz, Liberal general and defeated presidential candidate in the 1871 elections. Although the plan attracted support from a number of military chieftains, it was unsuccessful due to a lack of leadership and the death of its target, Juárez, in 1872. Juárez's successor—Sebastián Lerdo De Tejada—pardoned the rebels and brought the insurrection to an end. The lessons learned from this unsuccessful plan were used by Díaz to launch his successful Plan of Tuxtepec in January 1876.
