On entering Confederation, British Columbia had 25 members and 12 electoral districts. Redistribution increased the number of seats to 69 in 1986, to 75 in 1991 and to 79 in 2001.

Salaries: Effective April 1, 2002: Basic Compensation $68,500 for Gov't Caucus Members. Basic Compensation $72,300 for other Members. In addition to the Basic Compensation as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, the Premier receives a Special Allowance of $45,000 per annum; Ministers with Portfolio $39,000; Ministers without Portfolio $25,000; Parliamentary Secretaries $6,000; Speaker $39,000; Leader of the Official Opposition $39,000; Leader of the Third Party $19,500; Deputy Speaker $19,500; Deputy Chair, Ctee of the Whole House $9,000; Gov't Whip $9,000; Deputy Gov't Whip $6,000; Official Opposition Whip $9,000; Third Party Whip $6,000; Official Opposition House Leader $9,000; Third Party House Leader $6,000; Gov't Caucus Chair $9,000; Official Opposition Caucus Chair $9,000; Third Party Caucus Chair $6,000; Chair of Select, Standing or Special Ctee $6,000 and Deputy Chair of Select Standing or Special Ctee $3,000.
