Engel, Marian
Marian Engel, 1933–85, Canadian novelist. Widely considered one of Canada's major modern writers, she is particularly noted for work reflecting a strongly feminist approach. Engel's best-known novel is Bear (1976), a controversial best-selling tale of erotic love between a librarian and a bear. Her other novels include No Clouds of Glory (1968), The Honeymoon Festivel (1970), The Glassy Sea (1979), and Lunatic Villas (1981).
