Skellefteälven

Skellefteälven (shĕlĕf´təĕlv´ĕn), river, c.255 mi (410 km) long, rising in Norrbotten co., N Sweden, in the mountains along the Norwegian border. It flows SE through Uddjaur lake (30 mi/48 km long; 92 sq mi/238 sq km) to the Gulf of Bothnia at Skelleftehamn. The river traverses a rich copper- and gold-mining region near Boliden and Kristineberg; Skellefteå is just above its mouth.
