Vestfjarða

Vestfjarða (vĕst´fyär´ŧħä), peninsula, c.80 mi (130 km) long, NW Iceland, between Breiðafjörður and Húnaflói and extending into the Denmark Strait. The peninsula, c.90 mi (140 km) wide at its head, is connected with the rest of Iceland by an isthmus c.6 mi (10 km) wide. It is mountainous and is indented by many fjords, the largest of which is Ísafjörður. The town of Ísafjörður is the chief commercial center of the peninsula.
