Mattins
Mattins or Matins. The West Christian office for the night, derived from the vigils of the primitive church and so called until the 11th cent. In the Rule of St Benedict it was prescribed for 2 a.m. ‘Mattins’ is also an unofficial name for Anglican morning prayer.
