Belostomatidae (order Hemiptera, suborder Heteroptera) Family of large, aquatic bugs, which are ferocious predators of invertebrates, small fish, and frogs, seizing their prey with the front pair of legs. The family includes some of the largest aquatic insects. They are often attracted to artificial light. They occur mainly in the tropics.
