Clinidae (scaled blennies; subclass Actinopterygii, order Perciformes) A large family of marine, mainly tropical fish which differ from the true blennies (Blenniidae) in having fully scaled bodies and slender spines in the long dorsal and anal fins. They are small, bottom-dwelling fish, and occur in inshore situations. One of the larger species is Clinus superciliosus (klipfish), of S. Africa, which grows to 30 cm. There are about 175 species, found world-wide.
