Zeiformes (class Osteichthyes, subclass Actinopterygii) An order of bony fish that have deep, strongly compressed bodies, narrow caudal peduncles, large, protrusible mouths, and large eyes. They are found in inshore and offshore habitats. The largest and best-known family in the order are the Zeidae (dories).
