1946-
American ecologist whose work in comparative physiological ecology has given scientists new insight into evolution. He measured the energy expenditure and muscle function of insects during flight and compared this data to that of powered aircraft. This interdisciplinary approach to insect form and function may assist scientists and agriculturists in reducing economical losses due to migrating flying insects.
