American chef. Born Lucy Maclay Alexander in Maryland; dau. of Margaret Elizabeth Maclay and Robert Alexander.
Employed by the US Bureau of Home Nutrition and Home Economics, where she developed recipes using the lesser cuts of meat available in America during WWII rationing; received the Distinguished Service Medal of the US Department of Agriculture (1950), the 1st woman to be so honored.
