Capps, Lois (1938–)

American politician. Born Jan 10, 1938, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin; Pacific Lutheran University, BS in Nursing; Yale University, MA in Religion; University of California at Santa Barbara, MA in Education; m. Walter Capps (US congressional representative, died 1998); children: Lisa (died 2000) and Laura Capps.

Worked as Elementary District Nurse for the school system of Santa Barbara; representing California, won a special election for a Democratic seat in the 105th US Congress (1998), succeeding her late husband; served on the Committee on Science and Committee on International Relations; reelected (2000, 2002, 2004).
