Dunn, Shannon (1972–)

American half-pipe snowboarder. Name variations: Shannon Dunn Downing; Shannon Dunn-Downing. Born Nov 26, 1972, in Carnelian Bay, California; grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois; m. Dave Downing.

One of the dominant halfpipe competitors in the world, won the 1st bronze medal ever awarded for women's halfpipe snowboarding at Winter Olympics at Nagano (1998); won gold (1997) and silver (1999) in halfpipe, gold in superpipe (2001), and silver in slopestyle (2001) at X Games; became founding member of Boarding for Breast Cancer. Other 1st-place finishes in halfpipe include USSA Super Prix Overall champion (1999), FIS World Cup champion (1999), Gravity Games, Mammoth Mountain, CA (2000), Chevy Grand Prix Overall (2000), and Grand Prix #1 and #2, Mammoth, CA (2001).
