French manuscript illuminator. Flourished in Paris around 1400.
Anastaise worked as a professional illuminator of manuscripts in 15th-century Paris. Although few details about her life are known, her fame as an artist is documented in a book by her internationally known contemporary, the poet and author Christine de Pizan . Pizan's Book of the City of Ladies mentions Anastaise as an example of a talented female artist. Anastaise was reportedly one of the most sought-after manuscript illuminators in Paris, specializing in painting borders and flowers.
