English actress. Born in London, England, on March 27, 1903; died in 1979.
One of Britain's more popular stars of the silent screen, Betty Balfour made her debut at 17 in Nothing Else Matters and rose to popularity with the title role in Squibs the following year. She was a huge audience draw throughout the 1920s, starring mostly in comedies that were produced by her own company. With the arrival of sound, she turned to supporting roles.
