English lawyer. Name variations: Dame Rose Heilbron. Born in England in 1914; attended Belvedere School, Liverpool; graduated from Liverpool University, 1935; received LL.M. from Gray's Inn, 1937; married Dr. Nathaniel Burstein, in 1945; children: one daughter.
An honor graduate of Liverpool University, Dame Rose Heilbron studied law on scholarship at Gray's Inn, receiving her LL.M. in 1937. She was called to the bar in 1939, and her legal career advanced rapidly. A Queen's Counsel, she was appointed recorder of Burnley on December 5, 1956, a post she held until 1974. In 1974, she was appointed second High Court Judge (after Elizabeth Lane ), on the Northern Circuit in the Family Division. She advanced to Presiding Judge of the Northern Circuit in 1979. Heilbron was married to Dr. Nathaniel Burstein in 1937. She was made DBE in 1974 and served as chair of the Home Secretary's Advisory Group on Rape in 1975.
